Recently
fourth graders had the opportunity to learn from Craig David, a stone mosaic
artist, who has worked with Minnesota
stone to create murals around the Twin Cities.
The first
stop on the tour was a visit to his St.
Paul studio, where the students were able to see the
second panel of the current Twin’s Stadium mural in process! The mural was cut
and laid out on the floor. Since much of this mural is ceramic, he talked
about how the process of making ceramic tile is similar to igneous rock formed
from molten liquid, cooled and pressurized.
Following
the studio visit, Craig traveled with the fourth graders to the Wellstone Center to view his murals there. This
stop allowed the students to gain a better understanding of what the installed
art will look like and they were able to see murals made completely from
natural stone.
Having
Craig just a few miles from our campus is a real treat. After meeting him,
and seeing the Twin's mural in process, the kids will always remember this trip
as they pass the murals to enter a ballgame at the new stadium.
