STEM Conference for Girls
STEM Conference for Girls
Visitation School will present a conference to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) on Saturday, November 14, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. This conference is geared towards middle school girls (7th-8th grades) and aims to boost girls’ interest in taking STEM-related courses in high school, participating in STEM-related extracurricular activities, and ultimately pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Additionally, the conference will build connections between professionals and mentors in STEM fields with young women.
During the conference, girls will attend two lectures and attend four STEM workshops. The closing lecturer will be Tim Kehoe, a nationally recognized inventor of toys. The workshops will be led by STEM professionals and will include topics such as the Science of Sport (led by professors from University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine’s); Computer Science (led by a programmer from Best Buy and graduate students from the University of Minnesota); Math Applications (led by an associate professor of statistics from the U of M); and theatre sound and light (led by the Visitation Technical Director).
The cost for this conference is $40 (the fee includes the cost of lunch and a t-shirt).
